Laser Pre-Care/Post-Care

Contraindications:​

  1. We cannot treat you if you have taken isotretinoin (Accutane) in the last 6 months.

  2. We cannot treat pregnant women or women undergoing IVF.

  3. We cannot treat the chest or underarms if you are breastfeeding.

  4. We cannot treat you if you have any of the following: pacemaker or implantable cardioverter-defibrillator, metal implant or pin in the treatment area (IUD is fine), suspicious lesions, active skin infection, open lesion in the treatment area, hives, dermatitis, porphyria, epilepsy, bleeding disorder, heart condition/disease, history of stroke, Darier's disease, uncontrolled diabetes, Hepatitis B or C, HIV, AIDS, autoimmune disease such as lichen planus, lupus, scleroderma, or vitiligo

  5. We cannot go over psoriasis or eczema flare ups.

  6. We cannot go over keloid scars.

  7. We cannot treat areas with herpes flare ups.

  8. We cannot treat you without a doctor’s note if you have had cancer in the last 5 years.

  9. We cannot treat you if you have taken photosensitive medications in the last 2 weeks, such as antibiotics. If you are unsure if your medication is photosensitive, please ask your doctor.

  10. We cannot treat you if you are taking blood thinners.

  11. Laser hair removal is ineffective on true white, grey, blonde, and red hair.

  12. We cannot go over tattoos and permanent makeup, but we will go as close as possible to these areas.

Pre-Care:​

  1. Do not apply AHAs (glycolic acid, etc.), BHAs (salicylic acid, etc.), niacinamide, tretinoin, benzoyl peroxide, Vitamin C, Retin-A, or retinol to treatment areas for 7 days before treatment.

  2. No chemical peels or microneedling on treatment areas for 2 weeks before treatment.

  3. No Botox or fillers in treatment areas for 2 weeks before treatment.

  4. No direct sun exposure, tanning beds, or self-tanner on treatment areas for 2 weeks before treatment. As long as you apply and reapply sunscreen as directed during this time, you can be treated.

  5. Do not pluck, thread, wax, epilate, use hair removal cream on, or bleach treatment areas for 2 weeks before treatment.

  6. Please arrive at your appointment without makeup (no lipstick either), moisturizer, lotion, oil, deodorant, and any other products on the treatment areas.

  7. You must closely shave any areas to be treated (including the face, neck, and any thin body hairs) before your appointment (24 hours before is recommended). Failure to shave before your appointment will result in a $5 - $20 shaving fee depending on the areas needing to be shaved. If you cannot reach your upper back or the back of your neck, we will shave these areas for you at no additional cost.

Post-Care:​

  1. Do not apply AHAs (glycolic acid, etc.), BHAs (salicylic acid, etc.), niacinamide, tretinoin, benzoyl peroxide, Vitamin C, Retin-A, or retinol to treatment areas for 7 days after treatment.

  2. No chemical peels or microneedling on treatment areas for 2 weeks after treatment.

  4. No direct sun exposure, tanning beds, or self-tanner on treatment areas for 2 weeks after treatment. As long as you apply and reapply sunscreen as directed during this time, you should be fine.

  5. No hot water, strenuous exercise, saunas, or anything else that might increase your body temperature for 24 hours post-treatment.

  6. No swimming for 24 hours post-treatment.

  7. Do not apply products containing alcohol or scented products to treated areas for 5 hours post-treatment. These products can be applied 5 hours after treatment if they do not irritate the skin when applied.

  8. Do not exfoliate treated areas for 48 hours post-treatment.

  9. Most hairs start shedding 7 days post-treatment for up to 3 weeks post-treatment. You can exfoliate treated areas weekly beginning 7 days post-treatment to help remove dead hairs. You can also pull out dead hairs painlessly with your fingers beginning 7 days post-treatment. The hairs on the lips of the Brazilian can take up to 2 weeks to begin shedding.

  10. Redness, swelling, itching, and stinging are normal for up to 3 days post-treatment. If it is bothersome, you can apply cold compress, aloe vera gel, Vaseline, or hydrocortisone cream.

  11. Only shave or trim between treatments.
